AT&T, the telecommunications giant, disclosed a significant breach over the weekend, exposing sensitive information of millions of both current and former customers. Discovered on the dark web, this breach potentially compromised data such as Social Security numbers and passcodes, impacting approximately 7.6 million current account holders and a staggering 65.4 million former account holders.

In their weekend statement, the Dallas-based company expressed deep concern over the breach’s magnitude and the uncertainty surrounding the leaked data’s origin. Whether the data originated from AT&T itself or one of its vendors remains unclear, prompting the company to launch a thorough investigation.

The compromised information, spanning back to 2019 or earlier, includes various personal details like full names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and AT&T account numbers. However, AT&T has reassured customers that financial data and call histories remain unaffected.
